Results!

I'm so excited to say that I am finally seeing results!  I weighed myself this morning and I was down to 146!!  Wohoo!  I'm trying not to think about how quickly (or slowly) I lose the weight.  Also, I decided that weekends are not for calorie counting.  I didn't go crazy and I didn't break my candy or soda rules (I did have some delicious cheesefries though!).  I tried to eat everything in moderation.  I even split my cheesesteak with the girls:)
So for now I'm not doing anything different.  I'll keep counting calories, focusing on my nutrition and running three or four times a week!
New picture coming soon!

Love,
A slowly shrinking Shannon:)

Calorie Counting

Well, I decided to start trying to count calories.  I had a book, "Counting Calories for Dummies" that I had bought for our family gift exchange last summer and then took back from whoever got it;)  According to this book to lose 1 lb a week I need to eat 1600 calories.  Today is the first day I think I am going to pull it off.  I also ran 3 miles four times this week so I should be burning extra calories and maybe will lose weight a little quicker!  (please, please, please!)
I'm still hovering right around 150.  My scale is really not very accurate but I'm not willing to hop on the wii scale until I am sure it will say I am under 150lbs.  So hopefully by the end of the month I will be down around 145.
We'll see!

Off to eat 640 calories!!!!

Busy, busy, busy

I have been insanely busy these past two weeks but I wanted to give you a quick update.  I managed to gain weight on the ski trip and am back at 150.  Boooo!  I have started running a couple of miles a couple of times a week though.  I'm trying to decide what my next step should be.  Count calories?  Work out more?  I'm working out 3-4 times a week.  I feel I've pretty much cut out everything I realistically can:  candy, chips, fries, soda, and afternoon coffee.  Anything more would be serious deprivation and would  only last a week before I would explode and completely backslide.  I really thought that this would be enough to slowly chip away at the extra pounds but so far that does not seem to be the case.  So what now?  Help me people!!!!!

Little Weight Loss but Big Accomplishments!

So I lost a little bit of weight this week.  I think about a pound.  It's hard to tell on my scale but I think I was 148.5.  However, I got on the wii, which as we all know tends to add a few lbs, and I was 149.7 which moved me out of overweight on the wii!  My mii was thrilled!  I was hoping that would shrink her down but it didn't, my mii is still fat:(  but at least she's happy.

I've been taking some of the breakfast suggestions you've offered (thanks!) and just generally trying to make sure I balance my breakfasts, especially making sure I eat some protein with breakfast and it's been working pretty good.  I don't feel the need to snack between breakfast and lunch anymore.  I've even found myself craving healthier things for lunch which I will tackle in a couple weeks.

My next task is to eliminate my afternoon cup of coffee.  I've written a letter to let Afternoon Coffee know what's going on.  It goes a little something like this:

Dear Afternoon Coffee,

We have to break up.  It's not you, it's me.  I love your cream and sugar but they are destroying me and I can no longer be in this destructive relationship.  I'm moving on to Green Tea.  I'll never feel as passionate about him as I do about you but he's safe and he makes me feel good about myself.
I'm not saying we can never see each other again but only for the occasional rendezvous at Dunkin Donuts. You can't live here anymore.

I'm sorry, I love you, Goodbye,
Shannon

I'm baby steppin', I'm doing the work, I'm not a slacker.

Ok, I am kind of a slacker but this week I've done really good.  I haven't touched candy or soda and I've worked out the last three days.  I made it through 1 concert, 1 Young Couples (read food fest), 1 girls night (read food fest mania), and the baking of massive amounts of cake and the making of icing (I've licked a lot of spatulas this week).  I think I may be starting to see why there aren't any baker/supermodels.  The careers don't really jive, I'll be the first one of my kind.
Well, all that to say, I've lost a 1/2 lb.  I would have liked it to be a little more than that but it does put me under 150 on my scale.  149.5 to be more precise.  That obnoxious woman (wii board with a high voice) on the wii is telling me I still weigh 151 but I hate her and generally don't listen to her.  Every time I step on she makes this shocked little noise as if she's surprised by how much I weigh.  Newsflash wii witch:  I'm doing this because I weigh too much.  Stop being surprised that I weigh more than I should.  Just shut up and give me the numbers.  (I think I may have some pent up rage against her.  It's a toxic friendship but one I just can't let go of.)
This coming week I'll be concentrating on eating balanced breakfasts every morning.

Lying

I lied to my doctor's office.  I know, it's normally not a good idea but when they said, "Everything looks normal with your blood work."  I faked a happy voice and said, "Great!"  When really what I meant was, "Crap!  So I'm really just fat?!?!  You're sure?"
So now the real work begins.  As of this week I've cut out candy (including marshmallows!) and have devised a plan to gradually cut things out and exercise more.  Thankfully I have not yet cut out ice-cream and let me tell you, I needed me some Chubby Hubby after that diagnosis!
Shockingly, I only managed to loose one pound.  I figure at this rate I should be down to 125 by my 30th birthday in a little over two years.  I'll be having a pool party, and wearing a bikini.  On the exercise front I am having serious motivational issues. I've been getting in 2- 3 workouts a week. Not horrible but I don't think anyone is going to be calling asking me to be in an exercise video anytime soon. Hopefully I will be getting a call next week about an online weight lose team I am trying to get on. If that works out I'll be training for a spring race and blogging about it. More to come on that later. In the meantime I need spring and my running partner if I'm going to start working out seriously!

Oops!

So I forgot to weigh myself before breakfast yesterday and any weigh-ins after I have consumed any food do not count.  I did however weigh myself later in the day anyway.  I got really excited because the arrow was just before the dot instead of just after it.  I said, "Girls Mommy lost two pounds and it's the afternoon so I may have lost more!"  I gleefully skipped away.  Then I got to thinking, hmm something about the scale looked different, so I stepped back on (stupid I know).  Unfortunately the "dot" was not the 150lb line I was used to looking at.  It was the 155 dot.  So sad.  Maybe I should get a digital scale.

Anyway, I weighed myself this morning and was down to 150 so that's a pound from last week:)  I have considered that it was a pound of brain which seems like a definite possibility.  Oh well, it's all about the numbers.

PS.  No news on the thyroid test yet

Week 2 Woes

Ah, week two.  From what I hear I am not the first person to step on the scale and wail after their second week of trying to loose weight (I'm not dieting.  I'm making life changes blah, blah, blah).  After the doctors office scare I checked my scale at home by putting some weights on it.  Unless my weights are wrong my scale is right on.  So as of this morning I've gained one pound back, putting me at 151.  Disappointing? Yes.  Surprising?  No.  The only thing I have given up is soda.  I still eat a lot of bad for me foods including leftover Christmas candy and a ridiculous number of marshmellow men.  I had to buy marshmellows for Childrens Church on Sunday but we used about an 1/8th of the bags (regular and mini:) Sunday night so since then I've been making little men out of marshmellows and eating their heads off, complete with hersey kiss hats.  Don't judge me.
Anyway, I digress.  I actually kind of want to give up candy right now but I don't want to jump in too soon.  I don't want to feel deprived I just want to be one of those people who doesn't drink soda or eat candy.  So yes, my plan is to eat more candy until I am sick of it and then turn my back on it forever.
I call it my Eat it Til Your Sick of it Diet Plan for DummiesI expect it to be extremely successful.  If it's not, I expect next year my resolution may be to loose 100lbs, but hey, "nothing ventured, nothing gained" (or lost)

Blood Tests? Bring it on!

I just had the best doctors appointment!  First I stepped on the scale.  That part stunk.  I had boots on and it was much later in the day then when I last weighed myself but still the number was a lot more than I thought it would be:  157lbs!!!!  So upsetting, that my scale could be that far off : )

Now for the good part.  The doctor said the words every person battling weight hopes to hear, "Hmm, I think you might have a thyroid problem.  Would you like to have your thyroid checked?"  Why yes, yes I would.

So she gave me the script.  Stay posted for results.

Wednesday Weigh In

Well, folks it's been just under one week.  I haven't touched a sip of soda, (despite my parents efforts to thwart my goals by leaving an ENTIRE CASE of Dr. Pepper on my table) and I've worked out every other day, totalling three times since New Year's Eve.  The first day of working out I thought I was going to die and the next day I was soooo sore.  Now I am able to do almost the whole work out and am not sore at all.  I still can't do push ups,  Jillian yells at me not to "phone it in" and tells me "you can't take a break during a 20 minute workout and expect to get results!"  I'm not sure how she knows, it's kind of creepy.  Anyway, I'm thinking of moving up with to level two.  On a side note, does anyone have handweights they aren't using that I could borrow?  I've moved up from canned tomato soup to glass jars of tomato sauce.  The glass jars are a little slippery and cumbersome and I keep eating the tomato soup.

So has it worked? I weighed myself this morning and was down to 150lbs!   5lbs down 25lbs to go!  I did weigh myself a little later in the day the first time so it may be a little off but I've definitely still lost some weight.  Yay!

Off to sweat!
